With its stately architecture, cupolas and fanciful parapets, the Lido Club Hotel was completed in 1928. It was conceived and built by Senator William H. Reynolds as part of the Lido Golf Country Club, an oceanfront resort for the rich and famous.

Wealthy guests often came for the summer with their jewels and servants. They swam in the Olympic pool, played tennis and golf, dined in the exquisite Grill Room, danced on the oceanfront terrace to orchestras and often spent their days lounging in the cabana colony. In the evenings, the guests, dressed in their furs and jewels, danced in one of the ballrooms alongside Mayor Jimmy Walker and the Ziegfeld girls.

During World War II, the United States Navy requisitioned the building and all of its property. The hotel became a US Naval Training Station and later a prototype for the US Navy’s Separation Centers.

From 1947 to 1980, the Lido Hotel, often referred to as the Pink Lady, returned to its hotel resort status. Guests enjoyed the amenities and were entertained by the stars of the day, such as Barbara Streisand and Sammy Davis Jr., who performed under a retractable roof in the semicircular Starlight Nightclub.

With the changing times, the hotel was converted into Lido Beach Towers Condominium in 1980. Today, residents continue to enjoy the many amenities of this magnificent oceanfront community while appreciating its beauty and history.
